Prolonged drought and high temperatures may cause a $100- million loss in agricultural production in North Carolina this summer according to Agriculture Commissioner Jim Graham. Republican I. Beverly Lake Jr. and Gov. Jim Hunt had a debate Monday at Meredith College in Raleigh. Both sides claimed victory. A Polk County couple was reportedly convicted of Food Stamp Fraud in U. S. Federal Court in Asheville Monday. The late Max Savon Edwards for the past 14 years had made his home with a sister, Mrs. Sue Jordan on Peniel Road. Gov. Richard W. Riley of South Carolina will be in Landrum Thursday. The Board of Trustees of District I Schools are holding a reception for the Governor Thursday at 2:45 p.m. at the Dr. A. R. Walden Gymnasium, Landrum High School. The Tryon Methodist Mens annual steak dinner is set for Oct. 8th. Pigskin Talk At Rotary Friday Footballs will fly through the air Friday when the Tryon Rotary Club meets at 12:30 p.m. at the Pacolet River Plantation. The meeting will feature, Mike Pearson, Ken Brumley and Steve Coley, the high school football coaches at Tryon, Polk Central and Landrum. The coaches will talk about their season plans and prospects. New Jersey, Washington, Virg 1 ia, Hawaii, Michigan, ' Pennsylvania, Canada, ’ Conn., Tenn., and England, unusual to have inquires r two foreign nations in the sa month. Sworn In Today Phillip R. Feagan Phillip R Feagan of Columbus, who recently passed his North Carolina State Bar Examination, will be sworn in today at the Polk County District Court by the Honorable Tom Hicks. Mr. Feagan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Feagan of Columbus. He is a graduate of Polk Central High School and received his B.A. degree in 1974 from UNC at Chapel Hill. He worked for the Employment Security Commission before returning to law school. He was a May, 1980 graduate of Campbell University School of Law. Mr. Feagan, who plans to open a law office in Columbus, is married to the former Joan Smith, who teaches the first grade at Stearns School. Miss Karrie Buckner has returned to Davidson College where she is a sophomore. Quest Painting Enters Museum Collection The Mississippi Museum of Art, in Jackson, Mississippi, has recently acquired an oil painting, by Charles Quest of Tryon entitled “The Music Room.” It is a large canvas (52“ x 36”) showing the interior of a spacious colorful room.
